Population
Blackpool’s population is expected to gradually increase from the 2001 census figure of 142,283 to around 154,000 in the next 25 years.
There are slightly less men (48%) than women (52%). Ethnic groups make up just 1.6% of the population and Blackpool has the third largest lesbian, gay and bisexual community in the UK.
Blackpool has a large transient population, adversely impacting on local services. In one year alone, two local primary schools experienced a turnover of 60% of pupils. Visitors to the area also swell the population to a degree that for 30 days of the year there will be more visitors in the town than residents. This peaks at over 300,000 in the high season.
