Blackpool Council in Context
The Audit Commission rated Blackpool as a “three star” Council and one that is improving strongly, so why do we want to fix what doesn’t need mending? Because good is not good enough for us or our residents. Only when we are excellent will we begin to take stock of what we have achieved and then we will probably want to be even better.
We are well on the way to meeting this goal and we now want the right people to join our highly skilled, motivated and dedicated team to get us there…...and then go the extra mile.
Copies of the CPA reports for 2002 and 2006 are available in pdf format:
Blackpool Council became a unitary authority in 1998 and has a Conservative majority. It operates a leader and cabinet system with seven overview and scrutiny committees. To give local residents a greater say in Council affairs six Area Forums have been created – advisory and consultative meeting on a quarterly basis. It is the largest employer in the town with around 6,700 staff and has a budget of £181 million.
